First tooth: when and what to do

Most babies get their first tooth between 6 and 12 months — here's the schedule that matters.

Wipe gums with a soft cloth from birth, introduce a rice-grain smear of fluoride toothpaste at the first tooth, and book the first dental visit by your baby's first birthday.
