Brushing by age — the routine that actually works

From wiping gums at 0 months to unsupervised brushing at 8 years — the honest schedule.

Birth to first tooth: wipe gums with a damp cloth after feeds. First tooth to 3 years: rice-grain of fluoride toothpaste, twice a day, parent does the brushing. 3–6 years: pea-sized fluoride, parent still finishes every brush. 6–8 years: child brushes, parent checks. From 8: independent, with a nightly parent spot-check until 10–12. Two full minutes, twice a day — every day, no exceptions.
